Number of foreign tourists who visited Machu Picchu grows 11.8%

In the first eight months of the year, total tourist arrivals to the citadel of Machu Picchu amounted to 943.412, ie 11.8% higher than recorded in the same period last year, according to the Branch Cusco Central Bank (BCR).

As for foreign tourists between January and August, the citadel received 676,000 tourists, representing an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period of 2015. Also, the number of domestic visitors who came to Machu Picchu in that period amounted to 267,000 Peruvians, 18.8% higher compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the increase in the number of visits generated revenues of S / 101 million, 11.2% higher figure than projected in the same period of 2015.

Joined the Inca Trail

Meanwhile, the revenue generated by the Inca Trail visits reached 19 million soles between January and August 2016, reflecting an increase of 11.7% over the same period last year.

Instead, the revenue generated by visits to the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu in total amounted to 120 million soles, almost 20 times, verifying an increase of 11.3%, according to figures from the BCV
