One of the most popular places in Cusco and with plenty of culture and tradition is the Plaza San Francisco, about three blocks from the Plaza de Armas. Around the square you can also find restaurants, ice cream shops, juice bars, craft markets and grilled chicken joints. These are not the tourist restaurants upscale of the square or San Blas. Instead, they are tourists and cusqueños gather to share the same restaurants.


History

The San Francisco de Asis Square was part of the Inca esplanade Cusipata. During the colonial period, it was the second most important public space in the city.
