Colca Canyon

Colca Canyon is one of the deepest in the world and a popular destination for hiking. It is located in southern Peru, next to the Colca River, famous among rafting lovers. In this valley inhabited by the huge Andean condor , which can be seen from several viewpoints, such as Cruz del Condor . It is an area with green landscapes and several remote traditional villages where farming is practiced in itself terraces of the Incas .


Location

Colca Canyon is located on the northeastern end of the Arequipa region, Caylloma province, 165 kilometers from Arequipa and 40 km from Chivay main town and capital of the province of Caylloma. The highest point of the valley is the dormant volcano Ampato (6288 meters) and the lowest the confluence of the Colca and Andamayo (970 m) rivers.
